Signs of People With Low Self-respect

Self-respect refers to self-love, self-care, self-acceptance, and self-confidence. People with high self-respect love themselves as well as the people around them. They value what they have and strive hard to achieve what they desire instead of complaining. In contrast, those who lack self-respect tend to complain constantly about what they have or what they do not have.

Self-respect is a quality everyone must possess to live a happy and fulfilling life. It can be learned and strengthened through consistent practice. People with low self-respect must consciously work on developing it, but first, they need to identify the areas that require improvement.

Below are some common signs of low self-respect:

Insecurity

They are often insecure about various aspects of their lives, such as their appearance, clothing, job, health, or other personal matters.

Approval Seeking

They constantly seek validation from others because they do not trust their inner voice. Whether they are right or wrong, they depend on others’ approval as they struggle to make decisions on their own.

Comparisons

They frequently compare themselves with others to measure their own progress. Their life decisions are influenced by others’ lives rather than their own values and choices.

Negative Self-Talk

Persistent self-doubt leads them to engage in negative self-talk and excessive self-criticism.

Focus on Negatives

Although life presents both positive and negative experiences, they tend to dwell on negative events and overthink them for long periods.

Need to Prove Themselves

Even after minor mistakes, they over-explain or exaggerate situations. They are quick to feel guilty and often become over-apologetic when they believe they have done something wrong.

Social Phobia

Due to insecurity, they avoid social gatherings. This may stem from concerns about their appearance, clothing, or discomfort around certain people.
