For generations, women have faced many challenges. In the past, many were deprived of education, access to work, proper sanitation facilities, and safety. Issues such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, and other forms of discrimination have also affected many women across societies.
While several improvements have been made over time, there is still a long way to go before women can truly experience the respect and dignity they deserve. In recent years, reports have shown concerns regarding domestic violence, harassment, and safety issues. These realities remind us that society still needs to work together to build a safer and more respectful environment for women.
Despite these challenges, progress has also been visible in certain areas. For example, women’s participation in the workforce has grown significantly from around 23% in 2017 to approximately 42% in 2022. This shows that positive change is possible when awareness, opportunities, and support increase. However, there is still more to be done.
True respect and dignity come when women are treated equally in society whether it is in access to opportunities, fair compensation, the freedom to express themselves, or the ability to pursue their ambitions without barriers.
So what can we, as a society, do to ensure that women receive the respect and dignity they deserve?
1. Safe Environment
Creating a safe environment is the responsibility of both the government and society. Women should feel secure and confident in public spaces, workplaces, and homes, allowing them to live and move freely without fear.
2. Feeling Valued
Every individual is born with unique abilities and talents. Women are equally capable of achieving great things in different fields. Society should recognize and value their potential, encourage their ambitions, and support their aspirations.
3. Equal Work Opportunities
Governments and organizations should ensure that women have equal access to employment opportunities. Whether in public sector jobs or private companies, recruitment and advancement should be based on merit and capability.
4. Pay Parity
Equal work deserves equal pay. When men and women contribute the same level of effort and deliver similar results, they should receive fair and equal compensation.
5. Strong Legal Protection
While creating awareness and improving safety are essential, strong laws and strict enforcement are also necessary. Effective legal systems help deter crime and ensure justice, contributing to a safer environment for women.
Overall, building a society where women live with respect and dignity requires collective effort. Governments, institutions, communities, and individuals must all work together to create a culture of equality, safety, and mutual respect.
