What Does India Need to Improve to Grow as a Country?

India is a diverse country with many religions, castes, creeds, and communities living together, and that diversity is our greatest strength. It shows that we can achieve anything together as a nation, without bad blood among communities.

Recently, India has become the 4th largest economy in the world, and we should be proud of this achievement. However, numerous problems still exist that both the government and the people of the country must solve together.

Problems that need to be fixed:

Inequality

Around 40% of India’s total wealth is owned by the top 1%, and 62% by the top 5%. A large portion of the population still lives in poverty or as lower-middle and middle-class citizens struggling to make ends meet. The government needs to address this issue and ensure a better quality of life for everyone.

Unemployment

In a world where AI has started dominating almost every field and industry, many people have lost their jobs. Instead of job creation accelerating, it has unfortunately slowed down. The government needs to find effective ways to create employment by supporting entrepreneurs, investing in defense, infrastructure, physical labor, and manufacturing.

High Taxes

High taxation has become a serious problem for the middle class, making it difficult for them to save money. People pay taxes on income, CGST and SGST on almost everything they buy, road taxes, and vehicle taxes. This heavy tax burden is breaking the morale of the middle class.

Poor Infrastructure

The government is investing heavily in roads, railways, airports, business, and educational infrastructure, which is good for the country. However, existing road infrastructure remains poor, causing numerous accidents and deaths every year. While building new infrastructure is important, renovating and maintaining old infrastructure can significantly improve people’s lives.

Cleanliness

The government cannot solve this issue alone; citizens must also take responsibility. Spitting and throwing garbage in public places remain major problems. No policy can succeed unless people themselves act responsibly.

Women’s Safety

Crimes against women are reported daily, and the number of cases has increased rapidly in recent years. This is extremely concerning. The government must ensure stronger enforcement of laws so that such crimes reduce over time.

Pollution

Indian cities are among the most polluted in the world. Air, water, and noise pollution have reached alarming levels. The government must find long-term and sustainable solutions to address this crisis.

Developing Civic Sense

Many people in India struggle with basic civic behavior, especially towards tourists. From forcing selfies to mobbing them, tourists are often made uncomfortable. They are humans like us and deserve to be treated with respect.

Racism

When racist remarks are made against India, we feel angered but racism also exists within our country. People from different regions, especially from the Northeast, often face discrimination. Recently, a student from Northeast India died after undergoing treatment for 2–3 weeks in a hospital in Dehradun after being beaten by locals for objecting to racist comments. We need better education and awareness to eliminate racism from our society.

Poor Healthcare Facilities Across India

There is a severe lack of healthcare facilities, especially in rural areas. Recently, a pregnant woman died while traveling 6 km to reach a hospital, such tragic incidents are reported repeatedly. Access to basic medical care across villages remains a major challenge that must be urgently addressed.
