How to Address Unknown Feelings and Emotions?

We may be solving many difficult problems related to life, education, work, and other areas, but understanding our own minds and thoughts is often the most difficult challenge, one that very few people truly master.

Every day, we experience something new in our lives: good or bad, happiness or sorrow, excitement or sadness, calmness or anxiety. As a result, we experience thousands of thoughts each day.

Some thoughts repeat, while others are new, each carrying different emotions throughout the day. At times, we go through strange feelings that we can’t even identify. The same happens with our emotions as we often find it hard to understand why we are feeling a certain way.

This may be due to fear, uncertainty, or unresolved worries. But unless we identify the exact cause, these feelings will continue to trouble us and create anxiety.

There are ways to address such thoughts and emotions, but they require practice.

Meditate

Whenever you encounter such thoughts, don’t react angrily. Instead, pause and meditate. Let the thoughts flow through your mind without resistance. Try to understand what those thoughts are about and why they are arising.

Finding the “why” is essential. Once your mind understands the root cause, those thoughts will lose their power and won’t trouble you the next time.

For example:

  • Is it due to fear?
  • Work or academic pressure?
  • Uncertainty about the future?
  • Or simply a disturbing dream from the previous night?

Note It Down

Once you identify the cause, write it down and think about how you can resolve it. If you can’t find an answer immediately, research it or seek reliable resources.

When we clearly understand a problem, half of it is already solved. The remaining half requires conscious effort so it doesn’t trouble us again.

Talk to Trusted People

If you’re still struggling, talk openly with trusted friends or loved ones. There’s no shame in doing so. Often, those close to us understand us better and can offer clarity or reassurance.

Patience Is Key

Don’t get frustrated if nothing seems to work immediately. Understanding the mind and its patterns is extremely challenging and takes time. Consistent practice, especially meditation can help you gain control over your thoughts and emotions, but it may take weeks, months, or even years.

Be patient with yourself.
