Do Indians Lack Self-respect?

do indians lack self respect

If you ask me this question then I will say, yes. But, why?

First, let me clear that it’s not 100% but the majority of Indians have this problem. I am saying this because I have experienced living among people in different cities, as well as reading content on social media.

Let’s know the reasons why:

Belittling Ourselves

We Indians often belittle ourselves, by self-criticising, self-doubting, and talking bad about our own country in many areas. We disrespect our own culture, lack self-belief that we can’t compete with the world in different sectors and areas.

You may have read negative talks on social media that we are not good enough as a country and can’t compete with some big countries, in terms of technology, education, defence, medical or others but we can if we move forward with a positive mindset, better planning, and great determination.

Comparison with West

We often make comparisons with the West, be it technology, cars, cleanliness, economy, culture, cinema, food products and many others. We criticize ours while praising theirs. It’s not that we don’t have issues but we Indians need to support each other, back our govt and businesses, try to improve the system by acting together and raise the issues against the bad so we can create a bright future for ourselves and our kids.

We compare and praise western cities for how clean they are but here we litter/spit on the road, sidewalk and anywhere around the city. We love their city traffic while break rules here so we are responsible for many bad things happening in the country so better we correct them instead of comparing.

Seeking Validation

We love to seek validation from others. We don’t believe in our country’s achievement unless that’s recognized by foreign media or getting praised by foreign leaders. Many of us realize the importance of Indian culture after we see foreigners embracing and praising them. Do foreigners ask for our validations, simply not as they have greater self-respect?

We can be great but we need to accept our reality, both good or bad things we have, respect them and try to improve things by acting as one instead of criticising.

Yes, there are weaknesses in our country but looking down on ourselves and disrespecting in many ways not going to help. The West is developed, have been inventing and investing in every field for 1000 years, such as education, infrastructure, science, technology, defence, space, and others. We got independence in 1947 but still we have come a long way since then.

My humble request to every Indian is that instead of making fun of ourselves, learn to respect what we have and work towards making India a great country. With lack of resources, facility we still have done a lot, progressing faster towards a brighter future and a lot to do.
