Our Environment Shapes Our Character and That’s Very True!

There is a beautiful story about the people of Roseto, Italy, in the book Outlier, so I wanted to share it with you all. There is a beautiful message as well for everyone, so please read through to the last.

Around the 1890s, some Italians from the village of Roseto visited Pennsylvania for work. They liked the city; they were in touch with their own people over there, and in a few years, there were around a couple of thousand Rosetans migrated to the same city. They built their own village and kept the same name as their old village, which was Roseto.

Rosetans were very healthy, and only a few cases of heart disease were reported in their village. Of the people aged below 55, only a few died because of this, and those who were 55+ mostly died because of old age. During the 1960s, a medical team visited their village to examine this after they heard about it and surprisingly, found this true.

They analyzed everything from their food to climate to their village’s geographical region to substance abuse/intoxication culture, but they found nothing different as it was common among other European villages nearby.

Then, they hired a social scientist to analyze them and they found that their community environment kept them healthy, they were very friendly & helpful to each other, elders & women were very much respected, 3 generations were living together so this is what kept them happy always and happiness requires for a healthy heart that only such an environment can provide.

The message is that we all can mold our society culture like this so that there is no bad blood among us, and everyone is living happily and peacefully.
